Experience the Magic of Barra!
Barra de Navidad, Costa Alegre, Jalisco, Mexico
Your Place in the Sun!
Barra de Navidad is a small, picturesque fishing village 400 kilometres south of Puerto Vallarta. Barra is located on a sandbar extending out between the never-ending Pacific and a peaceful lagoon dotted with secluded coves and virgin sand beaches. Jungle-clad mountains, blue skies, fertile soil and sun, almost every day of the year, combine to create a lush landscape of mango and coconut groves, banana and pineapple plantations.
Barra has a variety of international, and traditional Mexican, restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs, tourist shops, boutiques and galleries featuring hand-crafted clothing, jewelry, paintings, pottery and sun hats. Musicians wander from restaurant to restaurant serenading customers and it’s not unusual to come across people dancing on the street to a live band that seems to appear out of nowhere. Everything in downtown Barra is within easy walking distance.
Sports enthusiasts have access to a variety of beach and recreational activities. Ask the staff at Hotel Casa Chips about tennis, hiking, biking, horseback riding, farm visits, swimming, boating, kayaking, surfing, diving, snorkeling, eco-tours, turtle rescue, whale watching, deep sea fishing, or wander on down to Barra’s pier and hire a boat at a fixed daily rate. A day of trolling for marlin, tuna, swordfish, or dorado is fun and rewarding, especially when you join your family and friends to dine on the catch-of-the-day at your favorite local restaurant.
Spend your days exploring the nearby pueblos of Villa Obregón, San Patricio-Melaque, Cuastecomate, Manzanillo, La Manzanilla, Boca de Iguana, Los Angeles Locos, El Tecuán, Tamarindo, Careyes and Tenacatita, or simply take a short jaunt across the lagoon on a ‘panga’ (water taxi) and dine at one of Colimilla’s seafood restaurants. Keep your eyes open for exotic wildlife, birds, butterflies and colorful flowers.
Barra’s friendly locals, and unique climatic zone, attract loyal International and Mexican vacationers and ex-pats seeking a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
